I was a Brownie then a Guide in Trinity Duke St Church in
the 1940s I remember when oor Brown Owl wis gettin merrit she
invited aw us wee lassies up tae her ma's hoose up the Drives (oor name
fur the Toffy bit a Dennistoun) tiled close inside toilet. When we got
there all her beautiful gifts were laid out for us tae look it "bit
don't touch " as if we wid we had never seen the like of it before ,
Then we were ushered in tae another room and the table wis set wae a
lovely lace cover an china cups n saucers ,am sure oor wee eyes wur like
saucers remember the War wis jist over and as weans fae working class
families we were not used to such luxuries , there wur cake stands wae an
assortment of sandwiches and cakes , and some kind of home made juice if
we wanted it, The family were so kind to us that day , they will never
know how much pleasure they gave tae that wee troop a Glesga Brownies ,and
on her wedding day we lined the church stairs in our nice clean uniforms
as she left the church, so proud to have been given this ( to us it was )
a great honour . |
